I'd like to point out that not all companies that have start up fees are scams. It cost money to start any business, either from scratch or a franchise. Your misunderstanding about home based businesses is common and it stems from two factors. The first is that when the mlm business model came out in the 60's a huge number fraudulent companies that mirrored the model also popped up. Second is the W2 syndrome.
